Polish Win for BizTalk

Microsoft Corp. today announced at Sibos 2008 that the Polish National Depository for Securities (KDPW) is implementing Microsoft BizTalk Accelerator for SWIFT for the transport, management and exchange of more than 4 million SWIFT transactions per year. As the central institution responsible for the management and supervision of clearing and settlement in Poland, KDPW will use Microsoft's leading solution for financial messaging integration, leveraging BizTalk Accelerator for SWIFT to help about 10 domestic and global customers efficiently and effectively connect to SWIFT.

"As the primary organization for the facilitation of clearing and settlement in Poland, KDPW strives to provide its customers with the highest global standards, including those for full securities dematerialization," said Slawomir Panasiuk, member of the management board, KDPW. "We needed to implement a solution that would allow our customers the best and most effective solution for exchanging SWIFT transactions with foreign depositories, but that also took our future international growth plans into consideration. Microsoft BizTalk Accelerator for SWIFT allows us to provide this connectivity quickly and easily, and provides the flexibility for us to connect additional financial institutions from around the globe as our clients need them."
Microsoft BizTalk Accelerator for SWIFT integrates quickly and easily with SWIFT Alliance, providing global connectivity with SWIFTNet. It provides a comprehensive, reliable and highly secure platform for the delivery of financial messages, and integrates easily into KDPW's mainframe system.

"KDPW plays a leading role in the financial markets in Poland, and this implementation demonstrates its commitment to working toward a service-oriented architecture (SOA)," said Sheida Hadji-Ashrafi, worldwide industry manager, Payments at Microsoft. "Microsoft is transforming payments services, and BizTalk Accelerator for SWIFT allows KDPW to continue driving toward both a holistic enterprise approach and new efficiencies for customers in their global connections with SWIFT."

Microsoft BizTalk for ING Investment Management

Microsoft Corp. announced today at Sibos 2008 that ING Investment Management has chosen Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 to enable SWIFT connectivity into The Bank of New York Mellon Corp. (BNYM), the settlement counterparty appointed by ING for back-office operations. Having completed the proof of concept, the project is due to go live by the end of 2008 and will enable a timely transfer of settlement instructions and receipt and reconciliation of messages from BNYM. Coupled with a reduction in the number of parties involved in the transaction, these methods are expected to transform ING Investment Management's securities and payments processing to provide a significant, highly efficient message processing structure.

Using Microsoft BizTalk Server including BizTalk Accelerator for SWIFT, ING will gain the ability to exchange the complete set of ISO 15022 securities and payments messages directly from their internal applications to increase straight-through processing (STP), support compliance needs and reduce risk.

"We were looking for a solution where we could maintain our existing ING architecture, and one that was cost effective, easy to implement and offering more control and visibility of our business processes," said Thomas Schreier, senior vice president, Information Technology, ING Investment Management. "Microsoft's BizTalk Accelerator for SWIFT achieves all of this without adding complexity or causing disruption to our existing business operations. Microsoft's solution provides us with the required interoperability, reliability and flexibility for rapidly creating and deploying SWIFT-based financial messaging solutions as well as meeting our customers' needs more efficiently and effectively."

In addition, by using Microsoft BizTalk Server, ING will be able to efficiently transmit information to and from a newly established, centralized data storage system. This system will allow the firm to handle the expected increase of transactions that the business will face in the future as part of its expansion plans.

"The investment management industry is changing at a rapid pace," said Dayle Scher, research director, Investment Management, TowerGroup. "Asset managers need to support increasing volumes and support new securities and portfolio strategies. By outsourcing back-office operations, some of the pressure placed on the operations area can be relieved, allowing the firm to focus on its core activities of investing and providing value to its customers."

Microsoft Deal with SWIFT

Microsoft Corp. today announced at Sibos 2008 that it is signing a global partnership agreement with the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Transactions (SWIFT). The announcement signifies a new, higher level of close cooperation between the organizations, under which they will work together to deliver deep industry value and simplify SWIFTNet implementation for customers using Microsoft technology. It is a mutual, commercially based agreement between the organizations and will open further opportunities for financial service providers and midsize to large corporations to quickly and easily connect to SWIFT.

"The dynamics of financial messaging are changing as institutions look toward technology as a competitive differentiator," said Amanda Westwood, global head of SWIFT's customer service division. "SWIFT customers demand flexible messaging platforms that are cost effective to implement and integrate with their existing systems. The continued work Microsoft does to support SWIFTNet integration and SWIFTSolutions partners goes even further toward helping expand these solutions for our customers both within organizations and across boundaries. We expect our global partnership to promote additional adoption of SWIFT connectivity and SWIFTSolutions in the future."

The development of a SWIFT partner ecosystem will be an important aspect of the global partnership. Microsoft is providing a solid and highly secure foundation on which an expanded set of trusted industry partners can build and implement solutions for SWIFT and deliver stronger solutions for customers. It will also increase the choices available to customers, enabling them to better compete through more flexible and scalable financial messaging solutions.

As a respected voice in the area of payments technology, and demonstrating its further commitment to both SWIFT and its international partner ecosystem, Microsoft has, for the fifth year running, achieved the SWIFTReady Financial EAI Label for 2008 for BizTalk Accelerator for SWIFT, which will be included in Microsoft BizTalk Server 2009.

"We are constantly listening to our customers' feedback, and what we're hearing from the financial services marketplace today is that they are looking to Microsoft, as a respected leader in enabling payments solutions, to provide increased flexibility beyond core SWIFT offerings," said David Vander, worldwide managing director of Banking at Microsoft. "With BizTalk Accelerator for SWIFT we are enabling fast and easy system interoperability from bank systems to payments networks, thereby helping ensure that customers receive the best possible solution to their business issues, whatever their approach to payments may be. Microsoft continues to collaborate and invest in a trusted community of partners to develop an ecosystem of payments solutions. A number of these partners are represented here at Sibos, including SWIFT, CashFac, DATALOG, Decillion, EastNets, Expertus, Fiserv NetEconomy, Nimbus, SAGA, SMA Financial, SunGard and XSP, all of which support the development of innovative, cost-effective, mission-critical solutions that will deliver deep industry value for customers and more effectively meet their payments needs globally."
